Research to Check the Spread of Breast Cancer Gaining Ground ...

There is good news for women living under the fear of breast cancer. It has been reported that the researchers of Melbourne has found new gene mutation that causes breast cancer. Earlier, it was thought almost impossible to explain genetic predisposition to breast cancer. However, with the recent discovery, the researchers would be able to better understand the genetic cause behind breast cancer.

It has been informed that thousands of Australian women affected with breast cancer helped the Melbourne researchers to understand the mutated gene responsible for causing breast cancer.

There are families in which women are often affected with breast cancer. The aim of the Melbourne researchers, studying breast cancer, was to find the mutated gene which transfers the tumor from one generation to other.

It has been informed that the researchers of Melbourne were involved in 20 years long study in which international researchers were also involved. During the study, the researchers used latest genetic sequencing technology for finding gene XRCC2, which is believed to be responsible for triggering breast cancers among women with family history of breast cancer.

While appraising the efforts of the researchers, Professor Melissa Southey from Melbourne University said that research in the field of breast cancer is actually improving. She said that in the coming time women with a history of breast cancer might be provided with personalized treatment.

She was reported as saying, ?To look forward to a time where we can estimate individually a woman's risk based on her genetic makeup and other environmental exposures is really where we're heading and this really does advance the research heading in that direction?. It is hoped that soon personalized treatment for breast cancer patients would become available soon.
